Paragraphica’s core strength is in content discovery and foundational writing of strategic narratives for marketing leaders and communication teams.

We have no fear of blank pages or screens. Our narrative work is at its best when everyone has time and space to review existing material with a critical eye. Ideally, we are engaged before anyone has started to draft a keynote presentation or briefed an agency to design a website. In our experience, composing the narrative helps to focus everyone’s mind on leadership goals and organizational direction.

We offer four tiers of narrative strategy:

1 Narrative Triage: fixing narrative drift, finding the root

What’s working and what’s not? Where are the gaps between internal talk and external walk? Paragraphica critiques existing narratives and suggests a radical edit. Then we give examples of how to execute the new root narrative in useful textual formats, such as social media or homepages. Example budget: 2 days of consultancy @ $2,400

2 Narrative Integration: working with marcoms to embed narrative

When you feel you have a narrative that is authentic and compelling but you can’t land it in your comms strategy … Paragraphica can help break the creative logjam by suggesting new vocabulary, visual, aural and verbal, that engages new and existing audiences. Example budget: 4 days of consultancy @ $4,800

3 Narrative Intensives: tying together organizational narratives

Often, we’ll work at board level to align operations with ethical and communication priorities. These sessions typically require a week of interviews and three to four days of intensive workshops for leaders and influencers. Requires in-person meetings. Example budget: 10 days of consultancy @ $16,000.

4 Narrative to Brand: bringing narrative to life in media

Paragraphica has a three-phase approach to delivering a narrative brand.

Phase A is Discovery, where we enter into a dialog with the brand as it is now and as it might be in the future. Phase B is Narration, where we use language to develop the root narrative of the brand so that we all understand its essential character and reason for being. (Phase B is optional but recommended.) Phase C is Creation, where the brand comes to life in shape, form, colour, texture and sound. Example budget range: $20,000 to 40,000

Brands and narratives you might know …

We often work on a confidential basis, travelling to meet clients on neutral territory and signing NDAs ...

By definition, it’s difficult to share the material that we work on because it tends to be sensitive. The work on this site is derived from deeper conversations that led to major changes in direction—but it is not reflective of my original narrative development.

Over the years we’ve had considerable exposure to the following sectors:

Finance services

Credit card launches, life insurance, savings and investment trusts. Notable brands: Alberta Securities Commission, Standard Life, Halifax Bank of Scotland, SAINTS.

Energy

Midstream, infrastructure and services. Notable brands: TC Energy, Enerflex, Keyera, AltaLink, SaskPower, Aveva.

Real estate

Multi-family, sports district and commercial. Notable brands: ASPAC, Atlanta Braves, Aquilini Group, Anthem, Brookfield, Boffo, Rize, SwissReal, Stone Creek, Wesgroup.
